Mini-Lesson Freebie: Theme & Author's Purpose
I absolutely love picture books that subtlety teach life skills and virtues while also being engaging and humorous. This style of book seems to be replacing the classic fables that literally spell out the life-lesson. These books are wonderful for toddlers like my daughter who can relate wholeheartedly to the pigeon not wanting to take a bath 🛁 but they are equally good, if not better for older kiddos who are practicing analyzing an author’s purpose & theme.
In this super simple reading mini-lesson, you will find all of the resources you need to give students practice with analyzing theme and author's purpose. Included is a creative writing extension activity that can turn this mini-lesson into a full class period or even two. This lesson is also distance learning friendly, just attach a link to the read-aloud!
